Chivalry is Alive & Well

Chivalry is alive and well…in southern Italy.

Women have the absolute right to make the first move, pick up the check and lead on the dance floor. We have every right to anything we want to do in the dating scene and much, much more.

There are some women though, myself included, who like a little red-carpet treatment. An extra effort and attention even if it’s not completely necessary. There is something powerful when a woman doesn’t need a man but let’s one take care of her.

Having had given too many chances to men in the New York area, I can confidently say effort is nonexistent along with the expectation of any bells and whistles. Most men around here don’t know how to have a conversation let alone basic dating etiquette. Courting is a practice that has become extinct, completely. And we wonder why women’s bar is set so low.

Well ladies, pick that bar up off the ground because we have options. They may not be around the corner but stepping outside your comfort zone lives a different species of men. Leaving your hometown or current city can really be the answer.

In my personal experience, moving to Rome has changed my perspective on dating.

Yes, taking a flight four thousand miles to meet a potential prince charming may sound drastic – while for others could be the adventure of a lifetime. It can really be moving just two hours away; it doesn’t always require a passport to meet the perfect guy. If finding your partner, soul mate, twin flame is a priority, changing your location (city, state, country) can make all the difference.

I met a woman on a work trip who is living proof that changing your location leads to love. She is originally from a small city in Colombia and moved to Orlando a few years ago. As she was drawing the most beautiful henna along my wrist (yes, I know, that happened), she told me her story.

Back home, she was lonely and devastated that she couldn’t find a man she really liked. After moving to a completely new place, boom- her love life did a complete one-eighty. She then proceeded to tell me about the many men who were dying to take her on a proper date.

Location, location. Important in real-estate and in dating.

With about half of my year spent in Italy, I’m only dating for those Italian months. Not wasting my time on people, lovers or friends, who will ultimately lead to disappointment is worth a long-distance situation or a dating pause.

Let me tell you, I keep a very tight schedule for those lusty, sun-soaked summers on the Mediterranean. My point being, putting yourself in a place to date people who treat you well (and that you actually like) is worth the trip, and the SkyMiles.  x
