Must See Movies for an Italian Escape

8 MUST SEE MOVIES FOR AN ITALIAN ESCAPE

Italy on your mind? These are some of the most romantic, kindest (with the exception of one Tom Ripley) movies set in Italy. Where the best love stories always seem to live.

We love Italy- it’s where many of our families came from and it gives us a sense of comfort. Naturally, we are drawn to these movies and often watch them repeatedly whenever we’re dreaming of Tuscany, Rome or the Amalfi Coast.

Even after returning from a trip to Italy, these movies will have you reliving some of your best memories and have you thinking of your next Italian getaway.

Although most of our trips are on hold for the moment, there is no harm in keeping the dream vacation alive. These movies not only give us a charming, international escape but will inspire you to keep that Italian vacation plan – for next year.

Check out some of my favorite movies set in Italy and be transported from your couch to regions of romance, from Venice to Rome. All titles linked below to stream online!

THE TALENTED MR RIPLEY

Social climber Matt Damon creates major issues after meeting wealthy couple Gwenth Paltrow and Jude Law. Super star cast with an unparalleled backdrop.

UNDER THE TUSCAN SUN

The story of an American woman leaving her husband to find herself in Italy has been done again and again. Still, who hasn’t wanted to drop everything and move to a villa in the Tuscan hills? And who doesn’t love Diane Lane?!

ROMAN HOLIDAY

Audrey Hepburn stars as a European princess who sneaks away from her royal duties for the day. With the handsome Gregory Peck as her guide they explore one of the world’s most beautiful cities.

EAT PRAY LOVE

Who hasn’t watched this (or read the memoir by Elizabeth Gilbert) and wanted to move to Italy? Watching Julia Roberts wonder around Rome eating gelato and head to Naples for pizza will seduce anyone.

LETTERS TO JULIETTE

Set in Verona, Amanda Seyfried helps lost lovers find each other after over a decade of being apart. Yes, you may sob.

THE ITALIAN JOB

This remake stars Charlize Theron who joins in on a bank heist to avenge her father. Lots of high speed boat chases through Venetian canals.

CHASING LIBERTY

This one has a short stop in Venice but I love Mandy Moore and I dreamt of  Matthew Goode escorting me around Europe.

THE LIZZIE MCGUIRE MOVIE

This one reminds us of a simpler time – Lizzie McGuire was mistaken for an international pop star on a school trip to Rome. Who else felt personally betrayed by Paolo?
